Some questions about doing independent study: How does it compare to "research?" Is it just like doing research, but on your own without faculty/Ph.D. guidance? Can I talk with any of you fellow students who have experience doing it? Just curious, as I feel like it's talked about and encouraged at Stanford a lot less frequently than "research" is.
