Driving faster can reduce latency as well as improving throughput, while building more lanes can only improve throughput.

Something that was really tricky for me to understand is the difference between throughput and latency - throughput is a rate (amount finished / time), while latency is a measure of time (it takes x clocks or x seconds to finish a task etc)
