What exactly is the difference between throughput and bandwidth? Both seem to be rates, but perhaps bandwidth is like an upper limit to throughput?

I think it's a difference between theoretical maximum and practical performance. The bandwidth of this chip may be 4 items per second, but if the core the memory is being served to can only process 2 items per second, the overall throughput of the system will be 2 items processed per second.
