Cameras with larger lens can blur the image background better. Meanwhile, the small Iphone cameras use image processing techniques to "fake" blurring effects.


The thing with zoom lenses is that after a certain point, everything becomes an orthographic image and you can't really distinguish vanishing points as space becomes super compressed. I wonder how such an effect can be replicated in 3D space with a virtual camera.


What is the real advantage of an actual zoom lens over the blurring effects from something like an iPhone portrait mode photo? Is there additional information that's actually captured?
